The HK MP5 PDW is a very compact and very reliable gun first off. When it first arrived, I was amazed at how solid it was built, not at all creaky like some of the Colt AEG's, this gun was SILENT. Also suprising, it's also a very heavy gun (about 4.4 lbs). And with the marui scope mount, scope, and flashlight mount, it weighs in at about 9 lbs! Carrying this gun, you sometimes forget that it's ABS resin, and think that it's the real steel model, I'm serious, this is a SOLID AEG. All of the correct markings are there, even very detailed "weld" marks at the joints on the gun exactly where they should be. The PDW also has a very unique barrel feature, you can flip a little switch up front, and take the flash suppressor off, reavealing the actual barrel, (this unscrews for VERY easy tracer attachment). It also has a side folding stock, which you can flip open or shut in a fraction of a second with practice. I use mine as a backup weapon behind my APS-2SV. It works very well when you need a high rate of fire in a sticky situation. But regretfully, every gun has it's downsides, but very fortuanatly, the PDW has very few. The biggest flaw in it's design is kind of unavoidable, you have to practically dismantle the gun to change the battery, which involves the user revoming three "lugs" from the gun (two to remove the folding stock, and one to remove the sling pin, then it's just a simple matter of pulling the cocking lever back to push the battery out of the rear of the gun. When I first got the gun, it took a while to do this, but with practice, I got better. (my best time is about 40 seconds, not that bad)
OK, now for performance. Granted, the PDW has a lower range, and a lower bb velocity than most other aeg's (with the exception of the MP5K). Stock it operates at about 250-260 fps. This gives you a two inch circle at about 20 feet, and chest sized targets possible at 110-120 feet. I knew this going into my purchase, and I have a good kill count nonetheless. The main benifit of the PDW is it's compact design, folded, it's only about 16 inches long, easily able to fit a gear bag/backpack. I carry mine in a back-mounted rucksack, very nice. I've had the gun for quite a while, and it's still operating perfectly.
Summary:
If you're looking for a high quality, durable low cost CQB weapon, the Marui MP5-PDW is it.
