First off, we'll have to tell you that when we ordered this from Den, we had a EG1000 engine installed, so we can't really effectively review the stock model (EG560). But we know the engine type, so we'll try our best. Upon opening the box, we noticed that the M16A1 has the same type of high quality ABS resin reciever as the rest of the M16 marui series guns. Also noted was the older looking box (the A1 is one of marui's oldest airsoft aeg's, along with the famas). Overall, a very BIG gun, the A1 is built fairly solid, we say "fairly" solid because the front hand grip feels a bit hollow and creeky, had we ordered the stock model, this fact would have been more annoying, but with the EG1000 upgrade, we could ignore the sounds the grip made. Metal parts include, trigger, firing selector, clip release, sling mounts, and butt pad. Not a whole lot of metal parts, but enough for us. As for weight, it's fairly light, (about 5lbs), you'd think that it would be one of the heavier models, but our assult guy carries it all day, without really complaining. As for performance, with the EG1000 installed, it does some serious damage, it's got about the longest barrel (short of the PSG) so the accuracy is second to none. At 50 feet, you get a 4 inch circle, and kills are possible out to about 100-110 feet. One one of the first skirmishes out with the new A1, I got nailed in the lip at 45 feet, it broke the skin pretty badly, I know that that's not good to hear, but it let us know more about the gun's power........it's one of the most fearsome guns we own to date. We'd recommend it to anyone that wants to do some serious damage on a heavy assult team. It wouldn't be a BAD gun with the stock EG560, but we recommend you get a 700 or 1000 model installed when you order it. DEN Trinity is a good place to get this done.
Summary:
While not the most durable gun, when it's upgraded this
thing can be a real monster.
