The Tokyo Marui Mp5 A4 is one of Heckler
and Koch's and Marui's most versitile weapons. A number of accessories
are available for it, and it just looks damn cool. When it arrived,
and we had the chance to handle it for the first time, we were amazed at
the stock's feel, it's very very solid, almost a sort of "dead rubber"
feel. When brought up to your shoulder, you feel that the gun is
a part of your arm, it just feels that good. We had the same problem
as all other MP5 AEG's (the magazine enterance splitting about one millimeter......but
a spot of model glue fixed that right up). Other than that, this
is a tremendous gun to be carrying. We have heard from quite a few
other web sites out there that all Marui MP5's have a sort of disease in
the trigger group, called "carbon lump", where, after a while, carbon builds
up on the trigger contact and it simply stops firing, leading you to take
the gun apart and file it off. We haven't run into this problem yet,
and hopefully, never will. (just a note, MP5 PDW's and K's are said
to be "immune" to carbon lump).
While not having TONS of metal parts on it, the
A4 does a very good job of retaining it's real-steel realism. Just
as the case with the other MP5's, there is virtually no creaking when handling
the weapon, and you often forget where the metal parts end and the ABS
ones begin. The battery (Large, Standard) fits into the end buttstock
via sliding the end cap down. This can be done in a matter of seconds,
giving you the opportunity to bring an extra battery or two out on the
field with you. The sights are standard steel, and the drum site
is the navy closed circle model (unlike the PDW and K's box drum sight).
Some people will say that MP5's have a much shorter range than say........the
M16 variants, due to the barrel length change.......but honestly, our MP5's
and M16's perform suprisingly the same (excluding the sound difference).
I, personally, would say that the A4 is the quietest of the MP5 AEG's (even
over the SD models). It also seems to have a higher rate of fire............Playing
against one on the field, you'll swear it's an M4A1 or something of the
like. And since it's so short, you can take this monster indoors
and really do some damage, were as the fully extended M4A1 would have trouble
taking corners without a lead fire team to clear the way.
Ok, as for performance, as I said before, the
A4 appears to have a higher RPM than the other MP5's. That said,
the range isn't notibly farther (flat bb flight to about 50 feet, and kills
possible out to about 100 feet or so). One thing I'd like to
comment about is the A4's hop up adjustment location. This is both
a good and bad thing. See, it's located on the left side of the foregrip,
kind of sticking out of the seam between the removeable grip, and the actual
gun. Hop up is manipulated by pushing the hop up lever back.
While this is VERY handy when you need to adjust hop up on the fly, it
can sometimes be EXTREMELY annoying to find that a random twig has adjusted
your hop up for you. You often find yourself shooting with full hop
up (leading to jams), or shooting with none (low distance)......But this
isn't a HUGE problem, as long as you remember to protect the little lever.
Putting a small piece of electrical tape over it wouldn't hurt either.
But other than that, we honestly couldn't find any problems with the Marui
A4, and will probobly end up buying a few more later on.
Summary:
A great gun with a huge variety of accessories
available, this is probobly the
one gun that *everyone* in the airsoft world
respects and appriciates.
